The Nursing Administration Team in Saudi German Hospital Jeddah comprises of senior nurses who have dedicated their careers in the growth of the hospital’s Nursing Department. Those nurses are Sitti Mudzna Jaire, RN, Monalinda Maliawao, RN, Ave Jean Odato, MBA, RN, and Susy George, RN. Their years of knowledge, skill, and experience have earned them great credit for their many contributions, which are far too many to mention.

The Nursing Administration Team coordinates and organizes the nursing personnel and resources to meet the demands of patient care. Sitti, Mona, Ave, and Susy collaborate with different individuals and/or departments to provide crisis management, facilitate the implementation of and compliance of the nursing staff to the Policies and Procedures, and ensure timely communication and continuity of patient care. They represent the hospital leadership, most particularly acting on behalf of the Chief Nursing Officer, across all settings to always ensure the smooth operations of the hospital. The Nurse Administration Team anticipates and manages any emergencies and unsafe situations and initiates interventions promptly. The team members ensure that all nurses are well-guided and compliant with the current, evidence-based clinical nursing practices. They consult each other and the higher management in order to provide direction and assistance to their fellow administrators as well as to unit managers, charge nurses, staff nurses, and other members of the Nursing Department. Moreover, they keep a closed-loop communication with the Chief Nursing Officer regarding all relevant issues.

Sitti, Mona, Ave, and Susy are role models of nursing leadership and excellence. They lead by example and always promote a positive work environment for the nurses.

During the period of a staffing crisis in 2019, Sitti, Mona, Ave, and Susy revisited their previous roles as charge nurses – a position they once were in. The were some days when they were assigned as charge nurses in the Emergency Department and in some General Wards. They were able to successfully fulfil the demands of the work at that time. Then, sometime in 2020, when the Chief Nursing Officer decided to train the Nurse Unit Managers for the Nurse Administrator’s role, they were the ones who tirelessly engaged in the mentorship. They trained the Unit Managers, teaching them what they needed to know and what they had to do. This mentorship program went on for two weeks until the unit managers could fare on their own with minimal supervision. They are leaders who indeed know the nursing workflow and systems from the bottom to the top.

Furthermore, the Nursing Administration Team has also made some initiatives in the improvement of the Nursing Department in general. They have discussed the importance of having glucometers for each code cart in the Ambulatory Care Settings, and they facilitated the acquisition of the devices needed. They have also presented the idea of having a Unified Supply Store Room for all the General Wards – an initiative which they also helped execute and materialize. Sitti, Mona, Ave, and Susy have also acted as Nurse Quality Managers, advocates of Infection Control, and other important roles in the hospital’s administrative and health care systems. These are just some of the things they have rendered that definitely deserve recognition as impactful efforts of their team.

During the Townhall meeting with the SGH’s corporate team, the Nurse Administrators advocated for the well-being of all members of the Nursing Department by emphasizing that the nurses have made valuable contributions and, therefore, should receive greater support in order to meet the demands of a high-quality patient care. The Nurse Administrators have further stressed that supporting the nurses will positively enhance patient satisfaction as well as nurse satisfaction.

What is more, the Nursing Administration Team has accommodated the hospital’s plan for the expansion of some critical units, most particularly the ICU, PICU, and CCU. With the support and direction of the CNO, they have reorganized the resources to ensure adequate staffing and also helped procure the medical supplies and equipment required.

Therefore, the Nursing Administration Team has done tremendously to update, innovate, and advocate in all aspects of nursing in SGH Jeddah. Words are not enough to encompass all the efforts they have given. They have truly earned this great appreciation.
