I am honored to nominate the Nursing Informatics Team for the prestigious DAISY Team Award in recognition of their extraordinary contributions to patient care and nursing excellence at Los Angeles General Medical Center. This exceptional team, led by nurses, exemplifies collaboration, innovation, and dedication in their critical role in supporting the implementation, training, and ongoing success of the ORCHID and ASTER systems.
The Nursing Informatics Team went above and beyond during the pre-implementation, implementation, and post-implementation phases of these vital systems. Their tireless efforts ensured that nurses across all shifts, including Swing and Night shifts, were trained thoroughly, ensuring seamless integration of these systems into patient care. Through their efforts, the nursing staff is empowered with the digital literacy needed to utilize ORCHID and ASTER effectively—providing efficient, compassionate care to our patients.
Often working long hours, the Nursing Informatics Team's dedication to training and supporting their colleagues reflects their ongoing commitment to patient outcomes and operational efficiency. They embody true teamwork and collaboration, aligning with Los Angeles General Medical Center’s values and mission of creating healthy communities through world-class care.
In addition to their technical expertise, this team plays a critical role in preparing front-line nurses with the skills and confidence needed to deliver exceptional patient care in a fast-paced and digitally-driven healthcare environment. Despite being unsung heroes, their influence on improving patient care outcomes and ensuring that all nurses are equipped with the tools necessary to meet patient needs is immeasurable.
Their actions and the positive impact they have on the entire nursing team and the patients we serve make them highly deserving recipients of the DAISY Team Award. It is with great enthusiasm that I nominate the Nursing Informatics Team for this prestigious honor.

The NIS Department of LA GENERAL plays a huge role in training all new and current employees for ORCHID. The role of information technology has never been more valuable nowadays, especially when it comes to new programs and technology that we utilize in health care. NIS are dedicated to what they do and is always available to assist all staff in their needs. The NIS Dept. deserves recognition and is not to be in the background any longer, but rather in the spotlight for the huge role they play in healthcare.

LA General NIS Team does excellent job training new employees joining the LA General Medical Center clinical staff. They excel in the way they have mastered teaching ORCHID to new employees and their work as a team is incredibly efficient and effective.
I have worked with them as part of the IT ORCHID support team granting access to ORCHID to the clinical staff they teach, under Leo Flores & Blake Gaarder leadership, LA General NIS team is one of the most knowledgeable team when it comes to consultation as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). They have been a valuable component when ORCHID IT has gone through updates and upgrades, and we have required consultation related to the clinical workflow associated to the different components, solutions, and applications that confirm ORCHID; all this seems as an outcome to serve better our patients by delivering the best service using our ORCHID system to ensure patients get the best medical service according to the patient needs.

I would like to nominate the Nursing Informatics team for their exceptional contribution to the BD/Alaris infusion pump replacement project. This was a massive and complex undertaking, requiring the replacement of nearly 3,000 total infusion pumps across various clinical areas. The project demanded meticulous planning, coordination, and seamless execution to ensure that patient care was not disrupted.
What made this task particularly challenging was that many of these pumps were actively used by patients at the time of the replacement. The Nursing Informatics team rose to the occasion, skillfully navigating the logistics of swapping out pumps without compromising patient safety or care quality. They went above and beyond, visiting each clinical area and performing the replacements with precision and professionalism. In addition to their hands-on efforts, the Nursing Informatics team also took on the critical responsibility of verifying that the electronic health record (EHR) integration functioned properly after each pump replacement. Their diligence in ensuring the accuracy and integration of the new pumps with the EHR system was crucial in maintaining seamless care and preventing any potential issues.
Their commitment to patient care and their unwavering teamwork were critical to the success of this project. Without the expertise, collaboration, and hands-on assistance of the nursing team, this enormous task could not have been accomplished as efficiently or safely. Their dedication and effort played an indispensable role in ensuring that the infusion pump replacement was carried out smoothly, and for that, they deserve the DAISY Team Award.

The NIS team has been instrumental in supporting both patients and staff at LA General. They have played a critical role in assisting us with key projects such as the replacement and deployment of 8,000 BD Alaris Infusion Management Pumps, the Bedside Monitor upgrade, the PIIC IX Upgrade, ASTER Acuity and Scheduling support, and Orchid Trainings. Their involvement extends to coordinating nurse training on the use of wireless clinical devices, which integrate with Orchid for real-time monitoring, ensuring safe and accurate medication dispensing at the bedside.
Additionally, the NIS team undertook the complex task of decommissioning outdated medication pumps and configuring the new ones across the Inpatient, Outpatient, and Emergency Department areas. They continue to provide essential training on critical clinical systems like Teletracking, BMDI and the orchid system to new nurses, ensuring that our teams are well-prepared to deliver the highest quality of patient care.

I would like to nominate the NIS team for their effort in making themselves available as a resource to all the staff at LA General. Whenever they are called, emailed, or have a question asked, they are always available to respond to the needs of the staff. They answer all questions from ORCHID orientation, Aster time, assignments, and schedules. Alaris pain programming, its connectivity, and Orchids issues. They are seen early in the morning rounding the units, properly teaching, and reaching out to the staff for opportunities on how to improve a process. I believe that they are a team that goes above and beyond, teaching and providing resources to all nursing staff at LA General.
