The Nursing Shift Coordinator team (NSC) is the toughest role within the nursing department. The team is functioning in a high capacity with lots of challenges and faces daily problems and issues which they need to resolve in such a timely manner. They manage many situations that require a lot of patience and tolerance, especially when they deal with staff, patients, visitors, and other healthcare teams and support services. Their dedication to coordinating and ensuring patient flow and safety is essential, and they do their utmost best to achieve this goal.
Their role of multitasking is impeccable as it requires tentative attention to minute details, and they ensure the task is executed well. The NSC faces much scrutiny and unhappiness among the staff, but they maintain their calmness and give their undivided attention to the staff to ensure their voice has been heard. They also give the best reply at the best they can to maintain peace. It is not easy being on the calls every single second and keeping track of staffing, patient flow, and even maintenance issues. They need to respond to any code and disaster at any given time and do not even have a proper break time or even to the extreme of a toilet break. This dedication from them needs to be acknowledged, and they deserve a salute.
I believe that to function in this team, they need to have passion, care, an empathic attitude, and characteristics of problem-solving, time management, and decisive decision-making. I believe they are truly a DAISY Team.
