Nursyafrina binti M.Syafri, Staff Nurse

I first met Nurse Syafrina when I was admitted to the hospital. That was my second day at the hospital. I remember that I was admitted to room 16, which had a limited view of a condominium next to the medical centre. Even though I was just admitted, she suggested that I be transferred to another room with an absolutely better view (a water park), and took the trouble to move all my things to the new room.

I was admitted for the treatment of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML), which required three cycles of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and a stem cell transplant. There was a team of doctors and nurses treating and taking care of me, but Nurse Syafrina was the one who stood out to me in terms of her care, interest, knowledge sharing, warmth, and empathy.

Whenever she was around, I felt mentally and emotionally at ease as she took time to interact with me, answered all my questions regarding the treatment, drugs and its interactions, shared her knowledge and even her personal experiences working and living around cancer patients in her family. 

I looked forward to seeing her whenever she was on duty. I felt like she was a friend in the ward as most of the time, I was alone, especially when during the third cycle of chemotherapy and the stem cell transplant where I was in the isolation room. I can see her dedication and passion for her job, and she loves what she does.
