In 2009 her older brother passed away from a heart disease known as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy ("HCM") and she and her family was devastated. Of course because their loved one was deceased, but also because they had no idea at the time what the silent killer "HCM" was. But that did not make them weaker it made them stronger because they decided to take his passing, something negative, and turned it into a positive by educating the community on the topic. In 2010 NyAsia got a legislative bill passed stating that "all NJ student athletes MUST get a cardiac screening before competing in sports." She also conducted two assemblies in 2011 where she educated the High School student body on the cardiac issue by demonstrating the use of an AED machine, and also providing facts on the topic of HCM. She is the Vice President of my brother 's foundation (The Kittim N. Sherrod Foundation). She exhibits leadership through education. Not only does she physically hold leadership positions and roles, but she makes sure she exhibits leadership through her actions. Currently being the Vice President of the KNS Foundation. In her brothers Foundation, they recently had their 3rd successful Annual fundraiser where the focus was not only on HCM but also on Cardiac Arrest. They hosted a fundraiser so that they could continuously give out scholarships to the eligible students. All of the things that her foundation has done and continues to do is all for others. So that other individuals do not have to go through the pain that she and her family had to go through.
