A STEMI patient arrived at the ED. Olga Suslaev was called to translate because the patient was non-English speaking. We needed to take the patient emergently to the Cath lab for a procedure to open their blocked artery. Despite it being the end of Olga's 12-hour shift, she agreed to stay with the patient and translate during the procedure. This ended up being a very difficult situation with the patient being transferred to UVA for advanced cardiac support.
Olga stayed with the patient and family to translate until the patient was transferred. She made sure that they understood everything that was happening. Olga used to work with AHEC but has been a floor nurse for many years and did this out of kindness and for the patient. She ended up staying 4 hours after her shift to help us. She was amazing!
