I witnessed Olive spending hours inside of that room at a time listening/addressing the patient's concerns. She spent over an hour in the room each morning, giving the patient a really good bath and the patient never complained.
Olive is a charge nurse for the unit. She was once a nursing supervisor, but she returned to the bedside where she makes a tremendous difference. Each shift, I observe Olive walking into EVERY patient's room to introduce herself, assess the patient, check oxygen levels, check fluids, and check bed alarms. She knows everything about every patient and is involved with every patient's care.
Olive shows compassion to both staff and patients each opportunity she gets. We had a very complicated COVID patient who was actually an employee too. It was decided to let the charge nurse care for that patient to improve their satisfaction during their stay and to avoid any issues. Once Olive started caring for that patient, she only would allow Olive in the room at night. I witnessed Olive spending hours inside of that room at a time listening/addressing the patient's concerns. Olive makes sure all of her nurses are equipped and prepared for each shift. She is professional, pleasant, and approachable. She can take on any challenge that comes her way. She demonstrates phenomenal teamwork. I think that our entire unit would agree.
Everyone just loves her. She comes to work literally to work and nothing more, from the moment she reaches the unit. She is a true Hero and I tell her that all the time. She is available to help anyone at any given time and is just full of knowledge and experience. As a new nurse, I do not know nearly as much as she does and I feel very safe and confident when she is charging. The nights always go by so smoothly with her. She is the mom of the unit. If I ever have a code or any emergent situation, I pray that Olive is in charge to help me save the day. She is exemplary and I strive to be like her in the years to come.
