I have come to know and appreciate her kindness, warmth, and wit.
More than anyone else during my stay, Olivia has made me feel human. She made me feel like I mattered. I first met Olivia on day 24 when she was the "helper" nurse refilling supplies in each room. We quickly struck up a conversation and he asked if I had been outside at all during my stay, to which I replied I had not. Olivia asked if I wanted to go, and I said "I would love to." Immediately, Olivia dropped everything, left the supply cart in my room, and returned with the portable telemetry. The feel of sunshine on my face for the first time in more than 3 weeks was nothing short of glorious. As much as able, she has repeatedly taken me outside for sunshine and fresh air. I have come to know and appreciate her kindness, warmth, and wit. Going on almost 2 months here, it is nurses like Olivia that help motivate me to remain calm, focused, and hopeful in this process of waiting for a heart.
