Olivia Arbess, BSN, RN
11 West has been The Wild West for a while now, but this particular night was one of the worst, with 3 rapids and 2 stroke alerts on 2 patients belonging to the same nurse back-to-back. Olivia was the rock of 11 West that night. Despite having patients of her own, she stepped in to do anything she could to help the new nurse through the rest of the night.
After the rapids and patients upgrading, the floor was open to a handful of beds, and we decided to upstaff to share the load. Olivia went as far as passing meds, answering call lights, walking the nurse through post-rapid workflow, and volunteering to take up to 4 patients despite being upstaffed so that the nurse could catch up and settle. This, although a very noteworthy one, is just one instance of Olivia being a superstar on the floor. She undeniably goes above and beyond for her patients and her coworkers. Whether I am on the floor or charging having, Olivia as part of my team is always a blessing.
