Olivia Byrne is one of the sexual assault nurses in the Emergency Department at CHOP. She is an outstanding nurse and provides exceptional care to all of her patients.
One example of this was when Olivia recently provided care for a victim of sexual assault. Olivia always goes above and beyond to prevent any additional trauma to her patients. While providing care to a victim of sexual assault, Olivia was performing an exam with an ultraviolent light that is used to detect evidence. Due to Olivia's dedication, patience and expertise, she located a white tattoo on the victim's arm. These tattoos can be a sign of sex trafficking and are not visible to the naked eye. Olivia raised the question and sorted out answers that ultimately resulted in identifying this concern and the patient's unfortunate situation. This finding resulted in seeking resources and safety for this patient. In collaboration with local authorities, Olivia made a huge difference for this patient.
Breakthroughs happen at CHOP each day and this one was due to exceptional care by Olivia Byrne. The Sexual Assault Response Team works collaboratively to provide care to victims of sexual assault each and every day while making a difference in the lives of our youth and community. We could not be prouder of Olivia.
