After a family member collapsed at home and was taken by ambulance to the Emergency Department at Lowell General’s main campus, I was thankful for the teamwork I witnessed. After all the radiology workup scans, our nurse, Olivia Jean, RN, noted the extreme pain he continued to experience, and she suggested an abdominal/pelvic CT to the physician. Without hesitation, the physician ordered the CT. The CT revealed that during his collapse at home, he managed to lacerate his spleen and was bleeding internally, affording him a MedFlight to Tufts. I felt Olivia was very compassionate with my family member, who was in a good deal of pain. Though the memory of the way Olivia looked has faded, if I passed Olivia in the hall, I probably wouldn’t recognize her. But the way she made me feel will forever be etched in my heart. Thank-you Olivia
