There was one nurse in particular that he trusted with his safety. Olivia was my dad’s first and last nurse. She was with him through his entire journey in the hospital and spoke in the language of “We.” Whenever there was an order, such as a CT scan, she would come into the room and say, “All right, B, we are going to do this together. You have this, and I will be right by your side”. 

Olivia's consistent check-ins with my dad and attentiveness allowed us to end our visit knowing my dad was safe and in capable and confident hands. 

Olivia was attentive, respectful, and confident, and added humor on difficult days. These qualities were unwavering when my dad was intubated and valuable to my family and me as we watched my dad decline. Even with my father sedated and on a ventilator, she would converse with him, introduce what she was about to do, recap the conversations that would take place surrounding his care, and encourage him to do his best fight.

Olivia is a genuine and incredible nurse who should be recognized for her patient care, attentiveness, and supportive manner through a patient or family’s most difficult days.
