We had a patient who recently experienced a traumatic brain injury. One of the side effects of the brain injury is he would go into the impulsive states where he did not know where he was and would get scared and try to hit & kick the staff to leave. Also, from the head injury he sustained major hearing loss, so when he would enter these states he could not hear the staff who were trying to redirect him.

Olivia Lin went above and beyond in her patient care and thought outside of the box the day she received her assignment for this patient. Olivia created signage to place on the bedside table right in front of the patient that stated "You are in the hospital and you are safe." So when the patient awoke again, he would be able to read the sign and be offered some reassurance.

While many nurses cared for this patient, Olivia really took an extra step and thought about the patient's individual needs. If this does not describe a DAISY Nurse, I do not know what does.
