I would like to recognize my ER nurse for the care she provided during one of the worst days of my life.

My husband and I came to the ER at Women & Children’s after I passed a large blood clot at what should have been 8 weeks pregnant. From our very first interaction with her, she brought a sense of calm and light into an incredibly heavy situation.

After receiving the devastating news that our baby no longer had a heartbeat, we were taken back to the ER to wait for the OR to be ready. While she had already been wonderful before that moment, it was in the hours after that she truly went above and beyond.

We spent those hours waiting in complete heartbreak, crying, trying to process everything, and facing decisions no one should have to make. She didn’t have to stay as present as she did, but she chose to. Even when there was nothing medically she needed to do, she continued to check on us frequently, offering kindness, compassion, and a quiet sense of support that meant more than I can put into words.

After six years of infertility, we truly believed our nightmare was over. Instead, we found ourselves in an even darker place. In the middle of that, she was a light.

When it was time for me to go to the OR, she stopped me, got down on my level, and spoke to me with such genuine compassion. She told me she was so sorry and that she knew there was nothing she could say to make it better, but if I was okay with it, she would be praying for us, both for healing during this time and for a healthy pregnancy in the future.

That moment will stay with me forever.

She didn’t just do her job; she cared for us as people. In a moment filled with loss, fear, and heartbreak, she made sure we did not feel alone. That kind of compassion is something I will never forget, and it is the reason I believe she is so deserving of this recognition.

Thank you, Olivia, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
