On behalf of my husband, I would like to recognize Olu Osinloye. Due to a complication from chemo for his lymphoma, he has been hospitalized 4 times at Methodist University over the last two months. Essentially, we have been here more than we have been home since mid-October. During that time we have had the privilege of being cared for by many wonderful nurses and staff. The standout nurse though is Olu. I think it takes a special demeanor and skill to be a night nurse, to do what needs to be done while still allowing the patient to rest as much as possible is so important. Olu is chock full of encouragement and has the wonderful gift of discernment. She knew when to encourage rest, when to encourage movement (despite my husband's protests) after surgery, and when to encourage his spirit by reminding him that he is a "warrior" and a "champion." Olu would also steal me for a moment in the hallway when I was alone to see how I was "really doing". Her clinical knowledge and skill are only matched by her compassion. Thankfully we are on the road to discharge home, but I know I will remember Olu, her laugh, her expertise, and her care, for many years to come.
