The end of February my son was rushed to Hillcrest emergency with some kind of respiratory distress. He spent a couple of days in ICU and then a couple of days on floor 5. Our time in the hospital was especially challenging because my son is severely autistic, intellectually disabled, and non-verbal.
Omar Garcia was by far the most professional, compassionate, efficient and competent of all the staff we were in contact with during our visit. The fact that I didn't even know he was a supervisor until we were leaving speaks to his humility. He was very attentive to our needs, offered helpful suggestions and was very patient with a very frustrated mother. He was the calm amid the storm. When I would become upset with the other medical staff for various reasons Omar was able to diffuse the situation by making me feel heard and supported while still maintaining professionalism in not demeaning the other staff. I found this impressive. His nursing skills were outstanding, and he always treated my disabled son with respect. He is much appreciated.
This is Omar's 2nd DAISY Award!
