Pablo demonstrated compassion, patience, empathy, and support while caring for my husband who was dealing with a medical complication that prolonged his hospitalization, Pablo exhibited the characteristics of an extraordinary nurse. Due to my husband’s medical situation causing severe anxiety and hallucinations, he was not the easiest patient to care for, but Pablo always maintained a calm approach while interacting, and a non-judgmental attitude. Pablo explained things in a way to ease my husband’s anxiety throughout the two days that he provided care for him. Pablo had a busy shift with all of his other patients, but always made sure to check in more than every two hours of rounding and see not only how the patient was doing, but also me as the family member which meant so much. Pablo maintained a demeanor my husband was able to connect with and listen to ensure his safety although he was not in his usual state of mind. I truly appreciate the non-judgmental approach to Pablo’s nursing care and while being the opposite end of nursing, the family member in this scenario, I can tell Pablo is an extraordinary nurse. As a nurse of fair years myself, I feel I am able to recognize that Pablo truly cares about his patient’s wellbeing and hope he knows that after these two long shifts caring for my husband, he truly made an everlasting impact on not only my husband as the patient, but also myself as the family member.
