Today, we had a patient come in by ambulance who was very sick and not projected to make it out of surgery. The patient's wife was not at the bedside. Paige made sure to gain access to the patient's phone in order to contact the wife. When we made contact with the wife, Paige made it very clear that it was extremely important for her to get here before the patient was taken to emergency surgery. Paige kept the phone on speaker while the wife got in her Uber to the hospital. She stayed at the patient’s side, holding his hand and communicating with the wife on speaker to ensure that she made it to the hospital safely. The wife ended up making it to the patient's bedside in time to speak with him before he was taken away. Paige then walked the wife to the OR waiting room. She gave her a big hug, and they cried together. Paige is an amazing nurse with amazing skills. She is also a beautiful person with a beautiful heart. I am fortunate to have her in my life as both a coworker and a friend.
