Pam is a fierce patient advocate. There are many examples of how she lives our cultural beliefs. In advocating for the patient, she makes sure to "speak up" and "be bold." Recently I witnessed her respond to a physician who questioned the attending physician's care plan and stated, "I'm only the consulting physician.". Pam reminded him that communication is the essence of patient-centered care and encouraged him to communicate with the other physician. She is very proactive when it comes to addressing the patient's needs and thoughtful regarding the care being given to them. As an ancillary staff member, I can say Pam never disregards what we are doing as unimportant or a low priority.
Another recent example was when Pam worked three shifts in a row with the same patient and I never passed the room without seeing her in there at the bedside. She could have charted in the nursing station, but spent the time in the room with a patient who didn't have much family support and was in a difficult situation.
