The nurse who took care of me in pre-op, Pam, really excelled in communicating so kindly as to what she was doing and why. Pam took the time to explain each step of the process and communicated in a manner that was kind and clear. But to me, the most extraordinary thing Pam did for me was to look out for my husband as I was being wheeled off to surgery. We have been married for 44 years and due to his MS, he has difficulty walking and falls quite often. The morning of the surgery, our son was delayed in getting to the hospital to help my husband. As such, I was very concerned about how he was going to manage to get himself safely to the waiting area while also carrying my overnight bag. As the OR team was in the room to wheel me off down the hall, Pam told my husband that she was going to help him out to the waiting room. I cannot express how much Pam's words and actions lifted the burden off my shoulders. Very honestly and truly, as I was wheeled down the hall, I felt such relief that he was in Pam's compassionate hands.
