She pulled up a chair took my hand and explained to me my surgery and reassured me that everything would be fine.
I had surgery to remove kidney stones, my surgery was scheduled for 3 pm. I waited upstairs in outpatient surgery till 3 as my doctor was running late. They finally took me down to the holding room at 3:15. By this time my nerves were on end. As I arrived in the holding room I was greeted by Pam, who came over and talked with me. I was the only one down there and she could tell I was very nervous. She pulled up a chair took my hand and explained to me my surgery and reassured me that everything would be fine. I didn't go to surgery till 4:30. I asked her if she would be in the recovery room when I came back from surgery to which Pam said she would be. Sure enough the first smiling face I saw when I came to was Pam- telling me surgery was over and I did great. As she stood there rubbing my hand and smiling, Pam stayed with me until I was wheeled out of recovery and ready to go back upstairs. As I thanked Pam for being so great to me she assured me she would see me in a couple of weeks for my second surgery to remove more stones. As I entered the hospital, again afraid of what was to come, I was greeted again by Pam. She came right over and started to take care of me asking if I was cold and needed some heated blankets. This time an older lady had come down for surgery & was very nervous. Pam without skipping a beat went to assist this lady and again pulled up a chair and talked with the nervous elderly lady, calming her down. As I was ready to go in for surgery Pam came over and wished me luck and said she would see me when I was done. Once again when I came to there was Pam telling me I was done and what a hero I was having over 100 pieces and stones removed. I feel as we all live in a busy world; Pam taking her time to spend with people and give them the extra care that is needed is a great example of going above and beyond her duties. Pam is a very kind and caring person. I feel if I didn't have Pam downstairs in holding I may have not gone into surgery so relaxed and ready for it. And for Pam to say she would be there when I woke up was so encouraging for me. I feel Pam should be recognized for her upbeat personality & caring, kindness, and for the loving person that she is. She is an outstanding nurse and her kindness doesn't go unrecognized.
