Pam's story begins with a passion to teach others basic life support, advanced life support, and pediatric life support measures throughout the BayCare organization. Although she would be considered an expert in this skill set, nothing could prepare her for what she would encounter in the community, at a rock-climbing gym on that Sunday afternoon.
Pam was spending quality time with her young son and had only been on the premises for about 10 minutes before a young lady had collapsed and appeared to be having seizure-like activity. This nurse immediately responded to a member of the community by determining that this individual was not seizing but was in fact in need of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. She performed several rounds of CPR and was able to get an AED on the patient and delivered a few shocks prior to the EMS personnel arriving.
After the last shock was delivered, the young woman had a return of spontaneous circulation and was taken to SJH Main. There she received hypothermia treatment and several days later, she began to move and speak again. The woman made a full recovery and suffered only amnesia of the event. Pam's altruistic and heroic actions exemplify what a true humanitarian she is. Pam is a true DAISY Nurse.
