Awestruck! That’s it! That’s the word we have been trying to think of to describe the feeling our family has had during our father’s stay here at UPMC Shadyside Hospital.
Our father arrived at Shadyside with bladder problems. From the minute we arrived, we were treated with the utmost Kindness. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and well informed. And this was just family members.
We live approximately 1.5 hours away and could not be at dad’s side 24/7. Pam Wessner took over as a second daughter/sibling for us. Dad really bonded with her. He not only respected her, but trusted her as well. It was the way she would answer all of his questions. She never brushed him off, never treated him like a child or patronized him. The way she attended to his personal needs, matter-of-factly, humor, but always with total respect.
We often discuss the way our entire family was treated and like the Barnes family, wanted to do something special. When we saw the DAISY Award, and read the description and saw the criteria for this wonderful award, we felt compelled to recommend Pam as a recipient for this award.
During the course of dad’s stay, we saw than Pam was no different with dad than she was with all of her patients. She went out of her way to make everyone feel extra special. Never the less, our family, but most importantly our dad, felt “extra special” because of the care he received from the staff at Shadyside but mostly from Pam who is most deserving of this award. As dad put it, she was his angel.
