"Pam she saved my baby's life". This was a quote from a mother regarding Pamela Hackman. Pam is a NICU RN who teaches infant CPR to our families. When I saw Pam that day, I had asked her if she could teach AM's parents and she volunteered to do it that afternoon. Two days after discharge, AM was sitting in the back seat of the car in his car seat, with his mother beside him. The CPR monitor went off and when mom looked at AM, he was blue, not breathing, and limp. She had her in-laws pull the car over and gave AM infant CPR. The ambulance came and AM was taken to the hospital. AM's mother was so thankful she learned CPR, and repeated many times "Pam saved my baby's life." Pam offered to teach our families infant CPR a few years ago to meet the needs of our families. This is not a part of her job requirement, but something extra she wanted to do to help parents of preemies feel more comfortable about taking their premature infants home.
