Pam immediately, and very quickly, assessed the situation and made sure that X was comfortable, and his immediate comforts were met, while also comforting my daughter.
Last Wednesday night, I received an urgent call that my daughter was bringing my Grandson, X, to the Emergency Room, with a serious head injury. He is 24 years old, has severe autism, and is quite difficult to manage. Upon arrival, my daughter was very distraught and looking for comfort as well.   X was immediately, and carefully, escorted to a private room, and it appeared that the nursing team was looking for guidance from the charge nurse, Pam Loftus.

Pam immediately, and very quickly assessed the situation, and made sure that X was comfortable, and his immediate comforts were met, while also comforting my daughter. It was quite evident that this was one of the busiest times in the Emergency Department, and Pam lead the team without a minute's hesitation, knowing that X’s behavior could escalate at any time. It was very apparent that while focusing on X’s immediate needs, she was so busy directing the team in so many directions, so very simply, and softly.

Staff and patients were asking her many questions, and she would respond as if there was only one other person in a room, and herself. The doctor was also sharing with Pam, instructions that he needed for X on a stat basis. Pam quietly, and quickly administered his orders, while also discussing X's orders with other departments that were there.  Pam was able to calm X, which was not an easy task, and allowed everyone to continue to perform the necessary care needed.

Because of Pam’s expertise, and demeanor, it is quite apparent that she has a passion for the work that she performs daily. Please share with Pam, our deepest gratitude for creating a calm, and comfortable environment for X, and my daughter. Much appreciation, and gratitude.
