Pam really took the time to get to know our daughter, find out what her interests were, and quickly bonded over their love of dogs.
When our daughter relapsed just a few months after ringing the bell and signifying the end of her nearly two and a half year treatment plan, it was shocking and heartbreaking. She had already been through so much and here we were right back at the beginning. At that time, much of her care was inpatient to prepare for a bone marrow transplant. We slowly transitioned from the outpatient Hematology/Oncology clinic to the outpatient BMT clinic – which came with an entirely new team. Pam was the first nurse we met. She immediately made our daughter feel comfortable with her port access, which had been a challenge in the past. Pam really took the time to get to know our daughter, find out what her interests were, and quickly bonded over their love of dogs. Detail-oriented and always following up with answers to my questions, Pam remained in the loop with her plan of care. When those plans changed, Pam didn’t miss a beat. She was dedicated to our daughter – going as far as meeting us in the ER to help access her port. Not because she had to, but because she could sense my anxiety with having someone unfamiliar doing it. She has the magic touch which really helped my daughter feel at ease. From little toy surprises to inspirational cards, Pam was there for our entire family. We are thankful for her and the compassionate care she provided.
