Pam's impact and contributions to the Professional Practice of Nursing will forever live on through the foundations for Shared Nursing Leadership and the Professional Practice of Nursing at Children's National.
Pamela Petto, a member of The Department of Nursing Science, Professional Practice, and Quality, is an outstanding Professional and Registered Nurse. Pam has been truly dedicated to the Profession of Nursing at Children's National. She has served Children's National and the Division of Nursing since September 12, 1994. Pam began her nursing career at Children's National as a staff nurse in the Hematology-Oncology Unit and has held the position of Shift Coordinator, Clinical Coordinator, Interim Manager for the Hematology-Oncology Unit, as well as Manager for Professional Practice.
Pam was an early adopter of Magnet and the practices associated with the Magnet Program. She has consistently, demonstrated the traits that exemplify the science and art of nursing practice. She has participated in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Nursing Shared Leadership at both the system and unit level and has also led the Magnet® Champions. Pam skillfully utilized her relationships within the nursing community, and her knowledge of the Magnet Model to broaden and strengthen the Professional Practice of Nursing at Children's National.
Pam has provided invaluable assistance to Children's National's pursuit of obtaining and retaining Magnet status. Pam's value to the Magnet Program includes her exceptional writing and editing skills, dedicated follow up, and the ability to effectively apply information obtained either formally or informally, to various Magnet narratives.

Due to Pam's dedication to Professional Nursing, her creativity in advancing the Nursing Profession, and her extraordinary ability to mentor and lead our nurses, we are very pleased to take advantage of this opportunity to honor one of our best nurses, Pam Petto, with the DAISY award.
