Dean Pamela Jeffries prioritized building a healthy work and learning environment which gave equal weight to the needs of staff.
During her six-year tenure at the George Washington University School of Nursing, Dean Pamela Jeffries prioritized building a healthy work and learning environment which gave equal weight to the needs of staff. Under her leadership, professional development funds for staff were incorporated into the annual budget.

As a part of the shared governance structure, she established a Staff Council and created standing committees with dedicated roles for staff. She also instituted an annual Faculty & Staff Retreat and annual Faculty & Staff Excellence Awards to build community between the two groups and offer opportunities for performance recognition. When she announced her plans to depart the university at the end of the academic year, staff sought a way to show their appreciation for her continuous support and acknowledgment of their contributions to the success of GW Nursing. After learning of the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award and realizing that Dean Jeffries, an internationally recognized leader and researcher in nursing and health care education, met all the criteria, staff voted unanimously in favor of presenting her with the honor. At her farewell reception, the Staff Council Chair surprised a humbled Dean Jeffries with the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award in front of gathered guests.
