My father had emergency surgery due to a hernia and bowel obstruction. The first night was very rough as the pain medication caused my 91-year-old father (the patient) to be extremely agitated and aggressive. He was at a point where he argued, and refused to allow Paola to get close to him. He even resisted physically by swinging and grasping the nurse, who was doing her best to calm him and service his needs. Apparently, he was experiencing post-surgery delirium in a bad way. I felt for Paola and the difficult position she was in. Paola maintained her composure throughout the night; she continued to assist under difficult circumstances. I was there to witness Paola's perseverance in keeping my father safe from harming himself even though, given the opportunity, he would have tried to hurt her. Through Paola's skill, he made it through the night and is recovering well. Paola deserves recognition!
