Pat cared for a patient who was intubated and kept coding. The family members were present and there was one daughter who would not accept the fact of what was happening. Other family tried to urge the daughter to let the patient (their loved one) go peacefully so she would not suffer. After an hour of the family trying to convince the daughter, Pat took control, kneeled down and explained with compassion but with sincerity to the daughter. She further explained that letting her go peacefully is the best option for the patient. She advocated for the patient in that she didn't want her to suffer. The daughter finally agreed. Pat really connected with the daughter and other family members and represented what Beaumont stands for. Being new to the unit, it was nice to see this outcome. And not only in this situation, but every patient Pat has in her care, she displays these characteristics. Thank you, Pat, you are exceptional!
