Patrice Sainvil-Thompson, MSN, RN
It is always a privilege to know good people, but for this nurse leader, "good" is an understatement; she is excellent. Patrice isn’t one to seek the spotlight—she’d gladly skip the public speaking and the photos—but despite her efforts to fly under the radar, her work speaks volumes. She has earned consistent accolades from patients, frontline staff, and nursing leadership alike.
One patient specifically noted that her presence made a profound difference in the quality of his care. Her team echoes that sentiment. As one staff member shared anonymously:
"There are so many situations that show her dedication. She answers every call, and whenever there is a crisis in the unit, she comes running. She doesn’t leave until she knows we are okay. She is known for always having a policy in hand to ensure we are safe and supported."
A perfect example of this was when units T11 and T8 were left with six nurses. She didn’t just offer words of encouragement; she stayed on the units, jumped into the workflow, and helped with IV insertions and blood draws for hard sticks. She never complained—she simply saw a need and took action. Her contributions are so visible that she was even recognized by staff during a recent AHRQ presentation.
She truly "gets it." She understands the mission. Whether it’s a heparin titration audit, an end-of-shift report, a nursing care plan, or managing a BiPAP, she takes charge and ensures the team is doing the right thing. She has our backs, period.
In her role, she is the definition of organized and effective, yet I most admire her willingness to be vulnerable. If she doesn’t know something, she jumps in to learn it—even if that means attending training outside her scheduled shift. She is driven by a singular goal: to be the best Nurse Educator she can be and to ensure our night shift nurses are the best they can be.
