Patricia has sat with numerous family members while their family is dying and has cried alongside them when the patient has passed.
Patricia Fulkerson has been a nurse for over 30 years and has worked her entire career at Owensboro Health Twin Lakes. I have had the pleasure of knowing Trish since my career began at Twin Lakes in 2013. On Med Surg, I had the pleasure of working under Trish as a CNA. When I worked as her CNA she always took the time to show and teach me things as a future nurse. The kindness shown by her was one of the reasons I chose to stay at Twin Lakes once I became a nurse. A few years ago, Patricia left Med Surg and came to CCU. I had joined the CCU a few years before she made this decision. When Trish arrived I had the chance to return the favor and oriented her to the unit. Even though she had many years of experience on Med Surg, she was very eager to learn and asked many questions. Even now as a nurse with over 30 years of experience she still strives to learn new things.
In regards to patient care, Trish takes beyond excellent care of her patients. She is very caring to every one of her patients and always tries to go the extra mile. She is a very strong advocate for her patients when needed and often takes on other tasks for her patients that are not designated to just nursing. Not only is she caring to the patients but she also shows the same kindness and care to the patients' family members. As a long-time resident of Grayson County, she knows many patients and their families. She is very thorough with her patients and explains everything to the patients along with their families. Patricia Fulkerson is a true DAISY Nurse. Not only for her years of service in the nursing field but also for the compassion and dedication she has shown to her patients and the patients' families. She not only shows the same care to her patients but also to her coworkers and fellow employees at Twin Lakes. As a long-time employee, Patricia has seen many nurses come and go over the years. She has seen many of the younger generations at Twin Lakes grow and mature. Many of the younger generations are now old enough to be her children. Many of us (including myself) see Trish as a second mom. We come to her for guidance and advice. She will gladly take the time to help and talk with us. She has told me numerous times how proud she is of the accomplishment I have achieved in life, from beginning as a CNA in nursing school to becoming an experienced CCU RN with a family.
It is such an honor and privilege to know her and to have worked with her during her nursing career. She truly is the definition of what a nurse is meant to be.
