I would like to tell you about a nurse I look up to as a person and a leader that keeps the Surgery Department together. Even in the most stressful situation, Pattie is cool, calm, and decisive. As a Charge Nurse, she is well-respected by her peers. She is a selfless person, always putting patients and others first. You can see it in her work ethic that this is not just a job for her. She's the type of person who would stay bedside with you if you were hospitalized. There is no one I have known in my entire career who is more deserving of the DAISY Award. No one is more rewarding, compassionate, or a more skillful nurse than Pattie Lopez. 

An example of the comments above - I have seen Pattie go out of her way to ensure excellent care, privacy, and compassion for our patients. One example is an incident that occurred in Surgery when a patient needed to be wheeled out of the OP expeditiously and cared for in the PACU. Pattie ensured the patient was taken from the OR to the PACU and immediately began crowd control. She only allowed those in the room who needed to care for the patient. She never left the patient's side and continued to coordinate care and ensured privacy was maintained. In the rush of everything, that patient was placed on the gurney backward. Pattie noticed this immediately and arranged for assistance to get the patient on the gurney correctly so she could sit the patient up which assisted with the patient's breathing. Pattie continued to assist with the care of the patient and never left the patient's side as she continued to hold the patient's hand, rub the patient's back and ensure warm blankets were present. This continued as she entered orders, monitored results, and communicated with physicians delivering care. This is not an isolated incident for Pattie as she is a true patient advocate with a compassionate heart.
