Professor Nelson was the first clinical instructor of my nursing career. I could tell from the very first day of clinical that she was very passionate and enthusiastic about nursing and that she would be an amazing instructor. Upon reflection of the first term, I saw that she went above and beyond, not only for the students but for the patients we cared for as well. She showed us how nursing isn't just strictly health and medication. It's also intimate and truly caring for your patients. She advocated for the patients who truly needed help, she bought clothes and nourishment for the patients on her own time, she made sure all the patients’ needs were taken care of, and at the same time, the students learned what the reality of nursing was. Professor Nelson would always communicate with us and reassure us how good a job we were doing to boost our morale when clinicals were getting tough. She was there for us as a teacher but also as a mentor and friend. She is an amazing person and deserves to be recognized by many.
