I believe Patty saved my mom's life again by talking through this and helping us prevent this from happening again.
My brother called me to say our mom was asleep in a chair at home and unresponsive. This is a drastic change for her because she is healthy and independent. I asked him to call 9-1-1, and she was taken to Marymount ED. No one could understand what was happening with mom; they were about to intubate her and decided to dose her with Narcan. She woke up after that and was sent to the ICU.

We could not understand how this could happen. We had her med list and did not understand what she could have taken too much of. It was the next day in the ICU that our nurse Patty spent time with us, talking through our concerns. She suggested I go to my mom's house and look at each of her pill bottles to ensure they had her name on the prescription. When I did that, I discovered my mom had "saved" my dad's prescription of Morphine from 2019 while he was in the care of hospice before he passed. My mom accidentally took a lethal dose of Morphine.

Not only did Marymount save my mom's life, but I believe Patty saved my mom's life again by talking through this and helping us prevent this from happening again. My mom does remember saving the medication because it is expensive and she may need it one day, but she doesn't know how this bottle made it into her daily routine. Thank goodness for Patty and her dedication to us as a family. By truly listening to our concerns, she was able to make a huge difference in our lives! We are so thankful for Patty's care and empathy!

This is Patty's second DAISY Award!
