Patricia assists the nurses in advocating for themselves and their patients. She has effectively guided our team through the many changes our Observation Unit has made.
Patricia has created a lasting impression by embodying the Atrium Health Culture Commitments, Back Your Buddy Values, and the Pathway to Excellence Standards. She fosters a sense of belonging among the nursing staff. She ensures that everyone feels valued and included. She tries to get to know everyone in the unit and strives to build a meaningful relationship with them.

Through morale-building activities/events and portraying herself as a team player on the floor, she creates a cohesive team environment where collaboration and teamwork are encouraged. When there is a code blue or rapid response on the floor, she dives in and helps. She assists the nurses in advocating for themselves and their patients. She has effectively guided our team through the many changes our Observation Unit has made. Her spirit of collaboration and creating positive outcomes extends from the floor to the several committees she serves within the hospital and the community. Her advocacy for her team and willingness to volunteer through various mediums has built trust among those around her. She has demonstrated reliability and commitment to helping those around her achieve and grow favorably. We can count on her to look out for the best regarding her teams, the patients, and the community.

She has led the implementation of quality improvement changes in the Observation Unit. Her efforts to optimize efficiency and flow, lower the length of stay for patients, and enhance discharge processes contribute to positive patient outcomes. She facilitated regular team meetings and initiatives where all staff members could share their perspectives and contribute ideas. This collaborative approach ensured that people felt included in the decision-making process and derived motivation for all of us to work towards a common goal. She is committed to continuous education and certifications for nurses. She constantly encourages her team members to go further in their education and provides them with resources to complete certifications, such as giving them a review book. She is a doctorate-prepared nurse manager with certification in medical-surgical nursing, progressive care nursing, and emergency nursing, and she has a Nursing Executive Advanced Certification. She is a role model for her healthcare team to continue to learn and grow in their interests and careers. This is in addition to her excellent work with quality improvement initiatives.

She reflects on her pursuit of excellence in patient care and professional development. She actively listens to her team, making them feel heard and valued. She consistently rounds on the floor and checks in on patients and staff, exuding positivity and kindness to everyone she comes across. She communicates openly with everyone, which fosters trust and strengthens relationships with those she works with. She regularly seeks ways to connect with the team. She is so sweet and kind to all those she meets. She is involved in various committees and volunteers throughout the hospital, highlighting her collaborative spirit and commitment to working effectively with others for the greater good. She is approachable and supportive. She exemplifies professionalism, compassion, and dedication in her work. Her effective leadership style creates an environment of cohesiveness.

Observation feels like a second family for me and my teammates. For Certified Nurses’ Day, she worked hard to provide the certified nurses with treat bags to let them know they were valued and recognized. She also fosters a supportive work environment where I feel we, as staff members, can thrive personally and professionally. She is a great leader with a kind heart that can be seen through her words and actions. We are fortunate to have her as our nurse manager.
