Patty provided the expert care of a seasoned ICU nurse, the compassion of a loving parent, and the hand of a friend.
Patty has worked in critical care on 3 ICU for over 25 years. During this time she has spread so much compassion and hope for all our patients, on that merit alone she deserves a medal. Most recently, Patty, who treats all her patients with the empathy and care they require, had a trauma patient come to us. This young man, only in his early 30s, presented during our COVID crisis. So the family, who would want to be here to hold his hand and tell his very broken body and spirit it is "ok", could not be present. Patty made this unit, our nurses, that family. She made him feel like he was our first priority and we were doing everything to help him heal. His injuries were intense and he knew the road was long but Patty explained everything to him, but also to his family. The Mom and Dad were very concerned they could not be here and care for their child. So Patty stepped in to be the advocate. She cared for him during his sickest days in the ICU and then as he started to get better and Rehab was now in the cards. She FaceTimed Mom and Dad every day she was on (or had another do this) and made sure they knew his progress. She had a great team with her, but Patty provided the expert care of a seasoned ICU nurse, the compassion of a loving parent, and the hand of a friend. The patient's parents sent a letter to this hospital and said that Patty "got him through the hard times and saved his life." Patty is a true DAISY Nurse.
