Patrick's commitment to putting patients first is powerfully illustrated through his care of a patient who received a terminal diagnosis while admitted to our unit. During an incredibly vulnerable and emotionally complex period, he provided intentional, compassionate, and unwavering support to both the patient and their family. As the patient’s condition declined and discussions began regarding transfer to a higher level of care, the family expressed a strong desire for the patient to remain under his care. They shared that the trust, comfort, and dignity he provided were unlike anything they had experienced before and that his presence made an unbearable situation feel more manageable.

He took the time to listen, explain, and remain fully present, ensuring the patient’s comfort while guiding the family through difficult decisions with honesty, empathy, and respect. His ability to balance clinical judgment with human connection allowed the family to feel supported, heard, and confident in the care being delivered. That a family would request to keep their loved one under his care during such a critical moment speaks volumes about the trust he builds and the profound impact of his leadership at the bedside.
