Because of Patrick, what could have been a frightening or chaotic night became a moment of reassurance.
During our time in the ICU at Mercy Gilbert, we were incredibly grateful for Patrick, the night nurse who cared for my husband during some of the most challenging overnight hours. Nights were especially difficult for my husband as he would wake suddenly and become very confused.
One night he was determined to leave. Ready to walk out. Instead of reacting with frustration or dismissing his concerns, Patrick met him with patience and understanding and remarkable compassion, bringing a steady calm that made all the difference.
What stood out the most was his commitment. He could have simply monitored the situation from a distance, but instead he chose to be present. He remained attentive, watchful, and engaged - prioritizing my husband's safety while also preserving his sense of dignity. That level of dedication does not go unnoticed.
Because of Patrick, what could have been a frightening or chaotic night became a moment of reassurance. He helped keep my husband calm and secure, and he gave our family peace of mind knowing someone so capable and compassionate was by his side.
We are deeply thankful for Patrick and the meaningful difference he made during our time at Mercy Gilbert. His care exemplifies the very best of what nursing should be - skilled, patient, protective, and profoundly human.
