Patrick Johns, RN

Patrick was consistently attentive, caring, sweet, and kind with my family member who was admitted from the ER and had a multiple-day stay. He responded to her call button in a timely manner and would do what it took to make her comfortable. She was elderly, in a frail state, and had chronic medical issues. Patrick made her feel seen and cared for. 

One evening when dinner was being served, he also got me, her caretaker, a sandwich even though I hadn't asked for anything. He had noticed I had been there by her bedside for hours without a break, without eating or drinking anything. That meant the world to my family and me. 

So often, caretakers are overlooked and fade into the background as only the patient is considered. Patrick's actions showed that he could put a patient's needs first, but that he could also show compassion and assist family members. That may have been a small act for him, but it meant so much to me to feel supported. It also gave me the strength and resilience as a caretaker to go on one more day as a caretaker for my family member. 

His kindness made me want to cry tears of gratitude. I won't soon forget his kind act.

Thank you, Patrick!  I hope all medical professionals strive to be more like you. I hope that Patrick receives the recognition and awards he so greatly deserves!
