On a day in September, a code heart was called for the hospital. A cath lab nurse that was on call was not able to be reached. Patrick Mutai, the Emergency Room charge nurse volunteered to assist in the cath lab. He was the only nurse present in the cath lab during the code heart and had never worked in the cath lab before. During the procedure, he could not understand why the staff would not allow him to leave the room; he hadn't realized he was the only nurse present alongside the cath lab techs. The cardiologist proceeded with the case and thanked the nurse for assisting in the procedure even though he had never done so before.
