I had the opportunity to shadow Patrick O'Keefe for the day on the Trauma service. As a medical student, I was very excited to shadow in Trauma and I truly loved my experience, but it was really Patrick that made the experience stand out! He was extremely open and welcoming to questions, always answering them in an approachable manner and inviting further discussion.
Additionally, Patrick made me feel very included in the entire trauma process, from allowing me to follow along with paperwork and even explaining CT scans and medical conditions as we approached them. Although these steps likely slowed his personal process down, you would have never known it. It was really the extra effort that enriched my shadowing and learning experience. I truly appreciate the time Patrick dedicated to helping me and believe he embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award!
