Patrick had a patient that just wanted to go home…. His gait wasn't the steadiest. He lived alone and had no family. Patrick convinced him to stay for a while but eventually the patient insisted on leaving. While some RN's would have sent him immediately out the door after signing AMA papers, Patrick was scared he might slip on ice and fall or worse. He told the patient that if he waited that he would walk him home. As soon as he was finished giving report Patrick safely walked the gentleman home after thirteen hours of work, in below zero weather, and without a second thought.
