July 2026 Honoree
Patrick Reagin, BSN, RN
This employee exemplifies the highest standards of compassionate, patient- and family-centered nursing care in pediatric hematology/oncology and specializes in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. With over two decades of progressive healthcare experience spanning clinical nursing, pharmacy, military medical operations, and leadership roles, this nurse brings unparalleled clinical expertise and heartfelt advocacy to every child and family he serves.
Two examples of these are:
This employee willingly serves as the primary nurse for patients and families with complex, high- acuity care needs on the pediatric oncology unit. This nurse recognizes the critical importance of continuity in care and consistently delivers it with dedication. By maintaining a consistent presence and listening attentively, this nurse builds strong therapeutic relationships grounded in trust. This approach reassures patients and families during vulnerable times, helping them feel truly heard and respected as individuals rather than defined solely by their illness. As a result, patients experience greater emotional security and a strengthened dignity amid their treatment journey.
A significant portion of the patient population on the unit requires isolation precautions, preventing them from leaving their rooms- and often the unit itself- until their lab results are within a certain range and standard, provider approval is granted, and precautions are lifted. This frequently leads to prolonged confinement, which can be particularly challenging for long-term care patients. One such patient had been admitted for over a year. Demonstrating profound advocacy and compassion, this nurse coordinated a special four-hour outing (special pass) for this patient. This nurse thoughtfully secured approvals from the entire medical team, pharmacy, and night-shift nurse, while meticulously planning a safe return and ensuring all medications were administered on schedule. This extraordinary effort, which involved substantial planning, proves his genuine human kindness.
As a Registered Nurse at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, this employee delivers exceptional, evidence-based care to pediatric patients undergoing chemotherapy and complex oncological treatments. This nurse skillfully administers medications, manages acute symptoms, and implements rigorous infection control measures while providing clear, empathetic education and emotional support to children and their families during some of their most vulnerable moments.
This nurse’s collaborative approach with multidisciplinary teams ensures individualized, holistic care plans that address both medical and psychosocial needs.
The nurse’s profound commitment to the patients is evident in the calm presence in high-stress situations, meticulous attention to detail, and unwavering advocacy. This nurse consistently transforms challenging clinical situations into opportunities for healing, hope, and strengthened family bonds. Through clinical excellence and genuine compassion, this nurse embodies the extraordinary nurse whose daily actions make a lasting difference in the lives of children and their loved ones.
