Patty Nolan and Laurie Lang established a special connection with one of our surgical patients. We recently had a patient with specials needs who was cancelled for his surgery because we were not able to calm him and assess him prior to surgery. He was rescheduled and with the help of these 2 RNs, the patient was able to be admitted and surgery completed.
The prep nurse, Laurie, ensured the patient was admitted in a calm and reassuring environment. The stretcher was removed and a recliner was placed in the admitting room which helped calm the patient. Laurie used her skill and was able to get his IV started without any difficulty. Patty came in on her day off to sit with the patient pre and post operatively. Patty had developed a relationship with the patient when he was previously here and wanted to help him and make certain his surgery was a success. Patty even related to him by giving him an SU t-shirt, which the patient loved!
