I was being seen at Mayo for an endoscopy. Though it is a routine procedure, I always experience some nervousness leading up to it. When Nurse Paul came to the waiting room to get me, he immediately began by establishing a relationship. He was gentle and happy. He made eye contact, gave a firm handshake, and immediately made me feel welcomed and cared for. Nurse Paul welcomed my husband as well and greeted us both with such love in his voice and smile that it made all the difference in the world to calm my nerves. Through the whole process of prepping me for the procedure, Nurse Paul had a way of engaging with us that made a conversation so enjoyable and relaxing. He had the unique ability to quickly connect on a deep level to pinpoint our interests and make it easy and fun to chit-chat! My nervousness quickly subsided. His care didn’t just stop there. He was able to so quickly learn who we were as individuals, and he met us where we were at by praying for and with us before I was taken back for the procedure. His ability to connect with patients is second to none, and I believe he should be awarded for excellent care and for establishing outstanding patient relationships. I got the best news from my procedure, but the greatest part of my experience at Mayo was meeting Nurse Paul. One person can make all the difference, and he did just that! He was definitely one of a kind!!

Thank you, Paul E., for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
