Paul is simply the backbone of our department.
The college student population demonstrates a growing need and early intervention for psychiatric services. Paul helps students who are in need of mental health care to advocate and navigate the care they need when they are at their most vulnerable. He has reduced the burden of multiple students who remain fearful of accessing care by being a steady, approachable, patient, and compassionate individual, putting many at ease. He cannot be thanked enough in making sure our young adults who are the future of our community and our country operate at their optimal best!

Paul is the center of the psychiatric team. Unflappable, conscientious, and kind, he cares for all students with compassion and thoughtfulness and takes care of our whole team daily. Paul keeps the whole system of care running, and does it with humor and grace, even on the toughest days. I don't know where we would be without Paul, and I appreciate his presence every day.

Paul goes above and beyond every day to coordinate care for students who need help with their medication or their appointments. He is the vital connection to psychiatric services at CAPS. He coordinates and administers long-acting medications and also assists with medication prior authorizations. For example, he was able to get an urgent approval for someone who would not have been able to afford their antipsychotic medication after discharge from an inpatient setting.

Paul is simply the backbone of our department. He shoulders multiple responsibilities and navigates complicated psychiatric situations with compassion and ease. His presence is calming to both patients and staff. As you can imagine, entering the world of psychiatry is often frightening due to the unknown, especially for students who are often doing so without the guidance of parents for the first time in their lives. He exudes calm and confidence, which puts them at ease.

My patient reported that they always feel supported by Paul when they come in. Patient reported that when they saw Paul for triage/vitals, he provided emotional support to her because she was so distraught about a relationship breakup. He has also discussed the importance of medication adherence with our patients and assessed their barriers to it. Once he identifies the barriers, he talks to them about how to overcome them. At times, he's had to share information about his own journey to connect with the patient and reduce the barrier posed by stigma. Paul is just an overall wonderful nurse who deserves all of the recognition for the fine job that he does every single day!
