Paul was a shining example of what nursing care is all about.
After 3 failed attempts at starting an IV, my nurse carried me to holding/recovery are for Outpatient Surgery. Paul came over and said, "I hear you are having trouble getting your IV started. Let me take a look." Long story short – he got it first try. I recognized him from previous visits at DCH. He told me he had retired from big house and was working part time at Northport. I expressed many thanks to him.

He had a patient coming from surgery, a young little boy that looked to be 3-4 years old. I heard him call him by name. He was screaming and having difficulty adjusting to coming out from anesthesia. Paul took this child, picked him up as his own and sat in a rocker soothing/calming him while other nurses were trying to get vitals and give his meds. It brought tears to my eyes to witness him show his compassion and care to this little boy that was scared, alone, and wanting his mama. If that was an example of what he has done on his nursing journey, he needs many awards. Paul was a shining example of what nursing care is all about.
