I have had a total of 10 surgeries in my life, all of them at Baptist, and this by far is the best experience I have ever had in the recovery room. Going into surgery I was scared to death, not of the surgery but of the recovery room.
My nurse, Paul Roberts, didn't know any of my history regarding my fear of the recovery room, but still managed to know all the right things to do and say. I woke up scared, in pain and begging for my family. Paul was caring and empathetic. He took care of my pain, reassured me and made arrangements for my husband to come back. He took time to make sure I was covered when assisting me to the bathroom. He was compassionate when I became nauseated. He went above and beyond to make sure that not only I was comfortable with the discharge instructions but that my husband was as well.
Paul is what all of us as nurses should strive to be.
