Paul Sparke received multiple nominations for this year's DAISY Faculty Award. The following is a great example of how he makes a difference to the students at The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences:

"Professor Sparke is my clinical instructor for NUR 121. He has on numerous occasions enhanced my personal clinical experience by reviewing patient charts in depth with me by pulling up and explaining radiographs, ECG’s and other types of imaging. He will ask critical thinking questions about the patient’s disease processes and is not judgmental or demeaning when I don’t understand the concept, but uses it as a teaching opportunity to help me work through the rationale myself. He will also continue the critical thinking discussions outside of class/clinical through email. Today was an especially positive experience educationally on the unit. My assigned patient was decompensating by becoming less mentally appropriate, vomiting bile and having increased uncontrolled pain. It was determined he needed an NG tube placed. He and I assisted the Nurse Practitioner in placing the NG tube, which was the most difficult one she ever placed (her words) and took numerous attempts. During and after the tube placement my patient vomited a large amount of bile fluid in his basin, all down the front of himself and in the bed. Professor Sparke stayed with me to help care for the patient for almost an hour, assisting in cleaning up the patient, bed linen changing and teaching me how to flush and care for NG tube and suction apparatus. Professor Sparke not only demands the best from his students, he gives his best. Watching him perform caring interventions at the patient’s bedside makes me understand the caliber of nurse I want to be. I hope to one day work beside him in the ICU."
